AimHire Welcomes New Account Manager Kim Canning

AIMHire Welcome KimCanning web

We are pleased to announce our team is growing. Kim Canning joined AimHire in June as our new account manager. Learn more about her in our Q&A below and connect with her on LinkedIn here

Tell us about yourself.

I'm from a suburb of Chicago, graduated from the University of Illinois (Go ILLINI!), and moved to Colorado to enjoy the great weather and beautiful views. I miss the sandy beaches, water skiing, and lakes in the Midwest; however, hiking, skiing, and snowshoeing in the Rocky Mountains have certainly been a fun alternative. I have two amazing sons who are Colorado natives – and do not support my Cubbies or Bears. What?!

What is a fact about you that surprises people?

I was a Brand Director for a celebrity.

What are your hobbies?

I love the outdoors. Any activity in which I get to be outside is how I like to spend my time. Hanging out with friends and family also energizes me.

Who is your hero?

My heroes are people who are compassionate, kind, supportive, have integrity, and love to laugh and be adventurous.

What are your favorite foods and movies?

Food is just plain good, and while I enjoy trying new things, Lou Malnati's pizza is at the top of my list in addition to Thai/Vietnamese food and seafood. And of course bread. Who doesn't love bread? Hey #LouMalnatis, feel free to send a six-pack pizza package to our AimHire office so my lovely coworkers and I can delight in the deliciousness of Chicago pizza! ;) My favorite movies/TV shows are comedies. If it makes me laugh out loud, it is time well spent.

Where do I want to travel?

I've been to Italy, France, Belgium, England, and Switzerland and hope to explore more European countries. The history, different customs and cultures, architecture, and food are fascinating.

Post-Pandemic Hiring: How to Maneuver Through the Changes

AimHire PostPandemic web

As the U.S. begins to recover from the devastation of the COVID-19 pandemic, people across the country are resuming their previous jobs, starting new positions, rethinking their careers, and looking to establish a sense of normalcy.

Before the pandemic ravaged the nation, the workforce saw more open positions than employees available to fill those positions. High demand, low supply. That abruptly turned upside-down once the full brunt of the pandemic hit. Labor demand became low, and labor supply became high. For employees who held onto their jobs during the turmoil, more was often expected of them as businesses fought to stay afloat.

The pivot to the pre-pandemic status quo

The return to a candidate-driven market (high demand, low supply) is gradually taking place across the country. Given that we’ve not seen a health crisis of this magnitude in our lifetime, however, there is no clear-cut set path to follow. Add to that, COVID variants and mutations, along with less-than-optimal vaccination rates across the globe, continue to threaten the stability of the pandemic recovery.

During the job market’s fluctuations and steps toward greater stability, hiring managers have to be flexible in their approach to hiring. Markets will require different tactics to attract and retain talent. Organizational plans prepared for various functional areas of your company may need to be adjusted. You may need to make different decisions about allocating resources to pursue your overall business direction.

We’re still finding our way

Hiring managers must keep in mind that candidates may have longer gaps in employment or shorter engagements with companies as a result of the pandemic. Focusing on the basics – competencies, transferable skills, and behavior traits – will bring the right candidates to the right roles.

You may have seen the recent surveys that claim employees are now ready to leave their employers in record numbers, the ramifications of the pandemic highlighting their dissatisfaction and motivating them to make big changes. It’s true that a percentage of candidates may decide to change careers or industries and took some initial steps to obtain training and certifications during the lockdowns. It’s also true that humans crave stability and work-life balance. The pandemic has been disruptive on many levels, and people are looking to the familiar for a sense of control and dependability.

Raissa Charon, managing partner at AimHire: “The CDC has listed some of the common psychological reactions to the pandemic as feelings of fear, anger, sadness, worry, or frustration, as well as difficulty concentrating and making decisions. As a mentor and advocate of the staffing and recruiting industry, I know that employees long for a sense of control, for everyday routines and practices. They want to rededicate themselves to their own professional success and have a deep-seated desire to contribute to the company they work for. The trauma brought about by the sudden changes imposed by the pandemic can and will create resilience and strength for employees and employers alike. Change will lead to stronger companies and more satisfied workers.”

Sharon Neher, managing partner at AimHire, adds: “One of the enduring trends in Human Resources I see for 2021 and beyond is companies investing in mental health and well-being initiatives. Having been in the industry for over twenty years, I know that people look for the helpful consequences of what they’re going through. For example, one positive outcome of the pandemic is that remote work has helped the employee experience; McKinsey reports increased engagement and well-being among U.S.-based employees. That’s great news, and it confirms that the challenges brought about by the pandemic reinforce people’s need to adapt, develop their skills, and bring to the fore the personal and professional fundamentals they know make life worth living.”

Some of the modifications we’ll see in the post-pandemic hiring process may reflect situational changes that are here to stay. Other variations may be temporary as employees and employers alike seek to regain their equilibrium once any necessary adjustments and course-corrections are made.

5 steps every new college graduate should take to land an entry-level job

AIMHire Grads socialMedia 05232 22

More than 4.4 million students in the graduating class of 2021 will walk across a socially distanced or virtual platform to receive their diploma this year. While this is an exciting time for new grads, the job hunt, especially in these times, can be daunting.

Here are steps you can take to increase the likelihood of landing a great entry-level job:

1. Network
Many think of networking as asking friends or family for a job or at least job leads. That can be part of it, but the most successful networkers don’t ask for help, they offer it. Inevitably most of the people you help will want to reciprocate.

2. Practice makes perfect
None of us are born knowing how to successfully interview on any platform. Whether it’s on the phone, Zoom or in-person, job interviews can be stressful and sometimes awkward. It’s helpful to do your research, prepare answers for commonly asked questions and practice with your friends or family to ensure your interview will go well.

3. Market your transferable skills
You likely already possess many transferable skills employers value, like organization, communication,
relationship building or attention to detail. Highlight these skills on your resume, cover letter and in interviews.

4. Customize your resume every time you apply to a job
Yes, job hunting is a numbers game, but the likelihood of being hired is not driven solely by the number of jobs you apply to. It is mostly driven by how well you apply to these jobs. Take the time to really research the organization, people who are connected to the organization you should network with, and customize your resume so that the keywords in it perfectly match with the relevant keywords in their job positing ad.

5. Stay up to date with your job search
We often post new positions several times a week at aimhiredenver.com/jobs and share those on LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. Check back regularly to find a job that matches your education, skills and interests.

There is always success and work to be found, and AimHire can help you with your search. Visit aimhiredenver.com/jobs regularly to check out our open positions and contact us at 303-802-2955 to get connected with one of our recruiters.

What to include on your resume as a college grad

AIMHire Grads socialMedia 0621 web

As a fresh graduate, you may lack work experience. But there are ways to make up for it by describing your academic and personal projects to showcase the real accomplishments and the real work you’ve achieved so far.

Here are a few things to include on your resume that will help you score a great job out of college:

1. Extracurricular activities
Whether you were a member of a debating society, coding club, or student’s newspaper, all of these probably taught you new skills and gave you valuable experience that can be translated to your new job.

2. Internships
Paid or unpaid, internships are the best weapon you have to beat the dreaded “experience required” requirement. Present them on your resume as regular work experience, listing not only your job duties but some specific achievements and the things you’ve learned.

3. Academic awards and honors
Dean’s list, scholarships, graduating with distinction, being elected a class representative — all of these can help you stand out from your peers. You can either mention them in your Education section or create a separate section called Awards & Achievements.

4. Academic and personal projects
Include relevant class or personal projects on your resume to show off your organizational or teamwork skills and your industry knowledge. You can list relevant projects as a subsection of your Education section. If you have more of them, consider creating a separate section called Projects. Add name, duration, technology used and a short description of what you did and what skills you used or acquired.

5. GPA
As a college grad, some companies, especially in certain industries, will expect to see your GPA. However, you should only list it if it’s 3.5 or higher. If you didn’t graduate magna cum lauda – or with notable academic accolades – leave your GPA out and draw attention to other details of your resume.

6. Relevant coursework
Show you possess knowledge related to the job you’re applying for by including your related coursework in the Education section.

7. Volunteer work
Whether it’s feeding the homeless, park beautification work, or helping during COVID, voluntary jobs indicate that building healthy relationships with your community and environment is your priority and you’re motivated to make an effort even when you’re not paid for it. You can mention your volunteer work in your Work Experience or create a separate Volunteering section.

Most of all, as a college graduate, the resume you write is more about where you’re going than where you’ve been. It’s about really tracing the line of where you want to be and translating those related details.

Madison Kubera Welcome 1 web

We have a new team member you’re going to want to get to know – Madison Kubera!

Joining us as a recruiter, Madison will source, screen and guide candidates through the applicant process on behalf of our clients. Working closely with our account managers to assist the hiring team in selecting the best qualified candidates for our positions, she will recruit for a variety of different disciplines from human resources, administrative support, finance, accounting, marketing and tech through creative sourcing techniques and relationship building.

Let’s take some time to get to know Madison a little better.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I graduated with a BA in Communication studies in 2019 and received my MBA this spring 2021. I have a passion for knowledge and adventure. I look forward to joining the AimHire team and welcome the challenge of bringing my skills from both my BA and MBA to become an asset to the team.

Where is the first place you want to travel when the pandemic is over?
Travel is one of my favorite hobbies and I have wanted to see so many places on the west coast. I recently moved to Denver, and now being in driving distance to many of those spots is very exciting to me. However, I can’t wait for the pandemic to be over and to be able to visit Italy and Greece, I’ve been wanting to since my first trip to Europe in 2018.

What is a fact about you that surprises people?
I have found my biggest surprise factor is where I’m from and how old I am. I’m originally from Michigan and moved to Kentucky five years ago for college. Now, I am ready to start my next adventure in Denver. I started college when I was only 17, now I’m 22 and just completed my MBA program.

Who is your hero?
My parents are my heroes because of the skills they have taught me. My dad has taught me about the importance of hard work and to try everything because you never know where life will take you. My mom has given me a sense of adventure and reminds me every day to chase every opportunity in front of me.

Welcome New HR Specialist, Tracy Shepard!

Tracy Shepard web

As AimHire celebrates its 11th anniversary this May, the premier Denver-based full-service staffing and recruiting company, continues to grow its team with its most recent new hire, Tracy Shepard.

Tracy has 15-plus years of experience in HR, with a substantial background in employee benefits. She is joining AimHire as an HR Specialist and looks forward to becoming a great source of support for AimHire employees and contractors.

Get to Know Tracy

I grew up in Illinois and moved to Colorado with my husband in 1998. We love it here! We have two boys, a freshman in college and a sophomore in high school.

What is a fact about you that surprises people?
I play both the piano and the guitar (although neither very well!). People are also surprised by the largeness and complexity of my family. I have one real brother, four stepbrothers and two half-sisters. My parents divorced and both remarried when I was very young, so we grew up together and all get along. All of my siblings are married and have kids now, so our family is HUGE!

Do you have any hobbies?
I enjoy hiking, biking (I have an e-bike - so fun!), golfing, reading, watching movies and visiting local breweries. My husband is a homebrewer and loves smoking meat on his smoker, so I enjoy yummy food and beverages at home as well.

Who is your hero?
My maternal Grandma Mildred is my hero. She was a strong and independent woman who was born before her time. She wanted to go to college and live in the city. She wasn't able to go to college due to finances but worked many years as a legal secretary. She raised my mom and uncle on her own after my grandpa died of a heart attack at a young age.

What is your favorite TV show?
My all-time favorites are “Friends” and “Seinfeld.” More recently, I have really enjoyed “Breaking Bad” and “Ozark.” I'm always looking for good shows to watch!

Where is the first place you want to travel when the pandemic is over?
I don't want to wait until the pandemic is over – just until our family is fully vaccinated and we're on our way there! We plan to travel to Texas and Wisconsin for family high school graduations. There are four of them this year!

Welcome Our New Executive Recruiter, Kara Casamento, Back to AimHire

Welcome Allison web

Hi, my name is Kara Casamento and I am so excited to be rejoining a remarkable team of women at AimHire! For the past few years, I've served as Recruiter and HR Business Partner for a dynamic digital marketing company in Denver called Adswerve! I had the pleasure of working alongside some of the brightest individuals in the digital media industry and I am bringing so much knowledge with me in my next venture!

Prior to Adswerve, I was lucky enough to work for AimHire from 2014 to 2018 and have always passionately believed in their work as a premier recruiting agency in Denver. When the opportunity presented itself to rejoin this team as Executive Recruiter, it was a no-brainer.

Get to Know Kara

Some fun things about me: In 2022, I will be turning the big 4-0 and celebrating my 10-year wedding anniversary within one week of each other! As long as international travel is back up and running, I fully intend to celebrate by eating my way through Italy.

A fact about me that surprises most people is that I am from Kentucky! No one can ever detect a southern accent, but my love for the south runs deep!

My hero is my dad. He is hardworking, unwaveringly supportive of his family, and absolutely hilarious.

I love having a lot of hobbies, but my current favorite is road-tripping in our tiny camper. It allows us to see every corner of our beautiful state!

And finally, I couldn't wrap up a bio without sharing my favorite food: BREAD. Give me a warm loaf of French bread or a nice focaccia and I am one happy gal!
